3 Creative (and Simple!) DIY Christmas Card Displays

December 10, 2018
Moments of MusingMoments of Musing

The holiday season is my absolute favorite time of year. To me, it’s about more than presents. It’s about presence—the presence of the spirit of love and joy in the air and the presence of family and friends, both near and far.

My favorite way to feel close to others during this time is by sending and receiving Christmas cards. In the past, I never knew how to display my cards—but this year, I decided to get creative and DIY three holiday card displays using Royal Building Products Trimboard. They’re easy and fun. Let’s get started!

Bright Lights Card Stand

If you’re looking for something that lights up a room, this unique display is a perfect blend of farmhouse and traditional decor styles—and it really stands out (pun intended).

Materials:

  • (1) 72 inch-long Royal Building Products Trim Profile #7841
  • (1) Red Christmas bow
  • (1) White Christmas wreath hanger
  • (1) 15” Christmas wreath
  • (1) Strand of Christmas lights
  • (1) Roll of 2-inch-wide tape
  • (1) Christmas wreath

Directions:

Step 1: Lay the trim flat on the ground
Step 2: Attach the wreath hanger to the top of the trim and add the wreath to the hanger
Step 3: Place a long strip of scotch tape onto one end of the Christmas lights and wind them around the trim. Be sure to leave a bit at the end to plug into an outlet.
Step 4: Stick the cards underneath the strand of lights.
Step 5: Put the decorated trim display into position in your home (make sure you place it near an outlet so you can turn the lights on).

Wreath O’ Cards

Believe it or not, standard Christmas wreaths can make excellent card displays!

Materials:

  • (1) 72-inch-long Royal Building Products Trim Profile #7841
  • (1) 15” Christmas wreath
  • (1) Strand of Christmas lights
  • (2) Mini Christmas tree figures
  • (1) Regular-sized ornament
  • (1) Small ornament
  • (1) Santa hat
  • Ornament hooks (1 per card)
  • (1) Hole puncher

Directions:

Step 1: Build a mantle shelf out of Royal Building Products trim
Step 2: Decorated the shelf with the Christmas lights, Santa hat, Christmas tree figures and ornaments
Step 3: Use the hole puncher to punch a hole in each card and attach an ornament hook
Step 4: Attach each card onto the wreath using the ornament hook
Step 5: Place wreath on decorated shelf

Clipboard Card Frame

Going for the farmhouse chic look? This clipboard card display is a perfect fit.

Materials:

  • (1) 72 inch-long Royal Building Products Trim Profile #7841
  • (1) Window Photo Frame Clipboard (I got mine at Pier 1)
  • (1) Red Christmas bow
  • (1) Strand of Christmas lights
  • (2) Mini Christmas tree figure
  • (2) Regular-sized ornament
  • (2) Small ornament
  • (1) Santa hat

Directions:

Step 1: Build a mantle shelf out of Royal Building Products trim
Step 2: Decorate the shelf with the Christmas lights, ornaments and Christmas tree figures
Step 3: Clip the cards into the frame. If you receive more cards than there are clips, you can simply add more than one card to each clip.

Voila—three simple ways to add some Christmas cheer to your home and turn your holiday cards into a sophisticated decor piece!
